It’s a little bit cold outside, isn’t it? Those of you who prefer sunny weather to cold won’t leave home today, will you? Perhaps you will just make a mug full of hot cocoa and chilli 🙂 This is exactly what I’ve just done to make writing this post for you even more enjoyable 🙂 You know what? I realized that I haven’t written a single word about winter hair care yet! And this issue is absolutely important because through developing good hair care habits – and minding hair follicles – you get stunning hair, even this so-called seasonal hair loss won’t pose any problem to you. And there is NOTHING that would make your hair stronger and improve its appearance faster and more effectively than hair oil treatment does.
Winter hair oil treatment: Is it worth it?
Of course, it is! Hair should be treated with oils no matter the season. Actually, you can do it any time of day and night, as many times as you only want to. In general, hair oil treatment can be carried out once a week, but if you find your strands dehydrated, damaged and non-resilient then you can apply natural oils even every day.
Benefits of hair oil treatment:
- Protects hair against freezing weather, strong wind, dry air.
- Protests hair against smog and urban pollution.
- Smooths out hair cuticles.
- Takes care of hair ends.
- Regenerates and fixes inner hair structures.
- Improves appearance of hair and adds shine.
- Cleanses scalp.
- Improves microcirculation in skin and fortifies follicles.
- Improves hair growth.
- Deals with hair thinning.
Winter hair oil treatment: How to do it right?
Actually, I wouldn’t differentiate among hair oil treatment done in winter, spring or summer. This hair boosting practice looks exactly the same no matter the season. I use an oil (or an oil blend) that matches my hair porosity and the current hair state (the more the hair is damaged, the more intensive the treatment should be). Then I spread it over the strands and scalp – I give my scalp a delicate message to stimulate blood flow in skin, which is beneficial for the follicles (they receive more oil). Next, I wrap my head with a towel and let the oil sit for no less than 30 minutes. Finally, I wash my hair as normal.
When it comes to winter hair care habits, I also try to protect the hair ends. They are the most fragile parts of the strands, which isn’t surprising when you realize that these are also the oldest parts of hair. Hair ends get damaged quicker because they have been long on our head and are continuously exposed to so-to-say external aggressors. Therefore, in order to prevent split ends, damage and dehydration, I spread a drop or two drops of a natural oil among my palms and then rub it into my hair ends.
Well, this habit doesn’t only protect hair from splitting but also prevents static that – I assume – affects every other one of you during winter. In other words, natural oils make your hair resistant to the negative electric charge.
Another idea that helps you deal with static is detangling hair using a wooden comb. You can use this tool to massage the scalp too.
