What is OCM? Natural face cleansing – step by step!

Will we ever give up on oils? Using oils for beauty purposes isn’t just a trend that’s going to pass. The range of their uses in daily care is getting wider and wider. An example is OCM, that is oil cleansing method.

I guess women don’t need to be told about the importance of deep face cleansing. The impurities build up on its surface and may clog the pores, cause acne breakouts and even trigger unpleasant irritations. Is an oil able to clear the face of them?

Natural face cleansing methods

Reaching for a gel or soap is the easiest way – cleanser appears to be gentle and effective since it’s often labeled as enriched with conditioning substances. Forget it. A soap is likely to leave your skin extremely dry whereas even the mildest cleanser gels may contain sulphates (washing agents), alcohols and different types of preservatives which cause damage to natural lipid coat of skin.

That is why natural face cleansing trend is right and makes a very good alternative. Washing the face with substances which don’t upset the skin’s balance is an easy way of eliminating plenty of skin-related problems.

OCM – Oil Cleansing Method

Oils make brilliant face-cleansing agents. Even though you wouldn’t expect they have a cleansing effect (because of the greasy consistency), once you try the method, you will love the results. OCM is one of the most popular ways of face washing without readymade cleansers. Instead of a gel or makeup remover, you use natural oils – free from preservatives, having a wide range of uses.

OCM benefits for skin

Cleansing face with oils isn’t just a random idea that someone has accidentally come up with. Natural oils make a brilliant material for a cleansing product because they deal even with waterproof makeup, thoroughly cleanse the skin not causing irritations, plus they have a nourishing effect.

OCM has yet another big benefit: used on a regular basis, it easily rebuilds the natural hydro-lipid film of the skin. In turn, your skin doesn’t lose valuable water, your day-to-day skin care brings great effects so the face looks smooth and radiant.

OCM – what oils to cleanse the face with?

How to do OCM to cleanse the skin, not clogging the pores accidentally?

The basic step involves making a blend of oils that is right for your skin type. Oils are made of particles and different oils have different sizes of these particles, plus the content of fatty acids also differs. That is why some oils are more likely to clog your skin pores whereas others are lighter and well absorbed. Choose a base oil that goes with your skin:

  • oily skin: linseed oil, lauric oil, jojoba oil
  • combination skin: grapeseed oil
  • dry skin: almond oil, apricot oil, borage oil
  • aging skin: argan oil, macadamia oil
  •  acne-prone skin: sunflower oil, safflower oil

What to pair your base oil with? Castor oil is always a must but it should make up 20% of your blend tops! Castor oil makes a perfect match with a base oil since it effectively cleanses the skin and its structure is similar to human sebum.
