Night is the time when skin carries out its self-regenerating processes intensively. What beauty products should be used at bedtime and what ingredients should they contain? How should proper nighttime skincare routine look like? Here are my nighttime skincare tips for you.
What beauty products should be applied at bedtime?
Since skin works the most intensively at night, the beauty products that I choose for nighttime care are rich in regenerating and nourishing substances. As we sleep, skin makes use of such products more effectively than it would do it during a day.
What should nighttime skincare products contain?
An essential part of nighttime skincare are face creams. Below you will find a list of ingredients that such beauty product should be made up of:
- retinol – regenerates epidermis and reduces wrinkles
- fruit acids – erase discolorations, increase collagen and elastin levels in skin and unclog skin pores
- Q10 coenzyme – fights free radicals off and makes skin more supple
- oxygen-infused substances – they increase metabolic rate and improve the skin of smokers
- vitamin E – combats free radicals
- vitamin C – accelerates cellular synthesis
How should nighttime skincare routine look like?
Application of the matching cosmetics is really crucial, yet it isn’t the only rule that you should have in mind. Actually, you should also:
Remove makeup
Removing color cosmetic from your face before going to sleep is the core of nighttime skin care routine. Mine begins with wiping face off – including eye skin – with a special lotion/milk. Then I get rid of the other impurities using a micellar lotion that answers my skin needs. If you leave makeup on, don’t be surprised if the skin becomes dull and blemished pretty soon. People having exceptionally sensitive and allergic-prone skin should make use of a special glove that removes makeup. It has to be dampen with water to then take makeup products off. Another advantage to mention, such gloves can be used multiple times. Just keep the gadget clean by washing it with lukewarm water and hard soap.
Sleep on two pillows
You just have to keep your head a little bit lifted to help the lymph go down your body instead of accumulating under eyes and face.
Match pillowcase with your skin type
In the case of sensitive and dry skin, either a silk or satin pillowcase will help you avoid creases on skin. Actually, owing to a silk pillowcase you will also prevent hair tangling. In the case of oily skin, you should go for a cotton pillowcase that absorbs the excess sebum. What’s worth realizing, you should replace the pillowcase with a fresh one every week. When washed regularly in a high temperature, you get rid of bacteria and impurities that are transported onto hair and face skin and later on clothes.
– Sleep in gloves
Providing that you slather a moisturizing cream all over the hands. Thanks to this you will wake up with smoother and softer hand skin. Actually, you can treat your feet alike – treat them with a moisturizing cream and sleep with socks on. Such treatments don’t only improve skin but also the nails. Therefore, if you suffer from brittle nails, you should regularly lubricate their surface and wear gloves to help the nail plate become softer and moisturized.
Use an eye cream
You should apply eye cream no matter the age you are. Yet, don’t use too much of it! Too thick layer of eye cream will fully penetrate the skin to leave you look swollen. Basically, I’d advise you to use an eye gel because its light consistency will help you look fresh and radiant in the morning.
Use cosmetic butters and oils
Indeed, lubricating butters and natural oils facilitate skin regeneration. Personally, I love shea butter because it moisturizes and softens skin really effectively. Avocado oil, which I also use fairly often, protects against moisture loss and maintains natural skin’s balance. If you experience some skin problems, night makes a perfect time to use moisturizing face masks. It’s a good idea to finish nighttime skincare routine with patting a rich and moisturizing cream into face.
Use exfoliating products
Most exfoliating face masks can be left on skin overnight to facilitate absorption of daycare cosmetics in the morning. The preparations responsible for removing dead skin cells produce outstanding results. In the morning I have the impression of waking up with new, better-looking face skin.
Use a rich cream, but in moderation
Yes, night face cream should be thick because it has plenty of time to penetrate skin freely, however, you shouldn’t use too much of it. Why? Too big portion of concentrated cream might clog skin pores, especially nose area. Deeply moisturizing, thick creams are found useful to take care of dry and irritation-prone skin. What’s interesting, you don’t have to spread such products over the entire surface of face. It’d better if you divided the skin into parts to treat each one with the right product. To clarify, I apply rich creams where my skin tends to flake off. Light cream or gel is applied to the skin areas that get oily too fast.
