Girls!
Does it also happen to you that arranging your hair the way you want is impossible? Simply, the hair is reluctant to work with you so gel, hair spray or mousse seem to be the only savior. I reach for hair styling products fairly often. Is it bad? Let’s find out how hair styling products affect the hair and whether it’s worth using them at all.
Hair styling products
Products that facilitate hair styling include: mousses, sprays, gels, waxes and pomades. We can also add some natural oils, lotions and heat protection products that are developed for hair styling in particular. What may be interesting, some people perceive a dry shampoo as a hair styling product too although its main purpose is completely different.
The range of hair styling products is wide, isn’t it?
Surely, you have at least one of such products at home (if not a few) because they do ease arranging the hair. Personally, I really owe a hair spray a great deal for helping me with all stunning party hairdos!
Main task: Hair styling
Of course, you can choose among various hair styling products, yet there is one thing that connects them all: the effect.
What are the properties of hair styling products? In plain English, the very cosmetics are developed to help us give the hair the shape and look we want it to have. In order to achieve the desired effect, all properties of hair styling products are needed. What cosmetics do you need? The cosmetics that:
- ease hair detangling;
- make hair more manageable;
- define the natural shape of hair (e.g. curl);
- prevent frizzy hair;
- shield against humidity, wind and temperature.
And these are the key tasks of hair styling products. They contain compounds that residue on hair surface and create a coat that protects, smooths out, boosts shine and fixes the shape of hair.
Extra task: Hair care
Are hair styling products also able to take care of hair?
More often than not, I come across hair sprays, styling mousses and other similar products that handle two tasks: facilitate hair styling and are supposed to condition the hair in a single step. Such products feature one of such inscriptions on the packaging: moisturize, regeneration, reinforcement. And this is when a question arises: Are hair styling products able to improve the state of hair? Can they replenish hair with water? Can they? Really?
Sadly, they can’t. Just bear in mind that HAIR STYLING PRODUCTS DON’T IMPROVE THE STATE OF HAIR.
I guess, I’ve already explained you how it works. Hair styling products aren’t able to improve state of hair because they work superficially. They aren’t capable of penetrating hair therefore neither are they able to nourish nor to regenerate. Of course, you may get the wrong impression of your hair becoming healthier after treating it with a styling product. Sadly, the effect you notice depends on smoothing out hair surface.
Frequent hair styling: I don’t recommend it
Hair styling products were created to help us manage hair on a daily basis. However, this is only an expedient because hair improvement can be achieved only due to using matching hair care products – healthy strands will be smooth, soft and full of shine. Still, occasionally, when you have so-called Bad Hair Day, hair styling products may save the day.
It’s also worth realizing that too frequent hair styling (which also includes application of hair styling products) damages hair and may deteriorate its condition. Then, you won’t notice any hair improvement at all, surely.
MIND YOU! It’s generally advised against frequent use of hair styling products. Neither should you use too much of them because such products:
- clump hair which leads to hair breakage during detangling;
- create build-ins which overburdens hair;
- make hair greasy faster.- clog the outlets of follicles and disturb their proper functioning;
- may lead to scalp irritation;
- may contribute to appearance of dandruff, psoriasis and hair loss.
Natural oils for hair styling: Better alternative
Can I recommend you something that would help you tame this unruly hair and at the same time doesn’t damage the strands as it’s common for these full of chemicals hair styling products?
Actually, I have one solution! Natural beauty oils <3
I’m not sure if you know that natural, cold-pressed and unrefined oils aren’t only perfectly suitable for improving the state of hair but also they help you style the strands – they smooth hair out, boost shine, shield against high temperature (including the sun), ease detangling, define curls and intensify the natural color. Additionally, natural beauty oils take care of hair which makes them a far more effective alternative to the majority of hair styling products.
