Okay, let’s begin with a little bit of theory. Is here anyone who doesn’t know what herbal distillate/floral water is? Let me explain it to you briefly and succinctly 🙂

Herbal distillate is water, a kind of side product obtained during essential oil production. In other words, it’s obtained as a result of steam distillation and owns the properties of a herb that it was extracted from. Short list of ingredients, powerful properties and entirely natural – this is what herbal distillate really is. And this is exactly why floral water makes such good alternative to commercial face toners. Obviously, there are more applications of herbal distillate than this one, all of which are completely natural. This means that herbal distillate is free from synthetic substances and controversial ingredients. The entire list of ingredients of a floral water includes one or maximally two items.

Apart from applying herbal distillates as face toners, you can make use of other applications. Here are the best ones:

1. Multi-herbal toner

This is one of the simplest solutions: combine a few herbal distillates into one perfect face toner. Once mixed, you create a mighty blend that offers you multitude of benefits characteristic for a few herbal distillates. The more floral waters combined, the more advanced formula you obtain.

2. Bi-phase makeup remover

Herbal distillate used as a component of OCM blends is an awesome idea. Floral water makes the emulsion incredibly lightweight and helps you spread the oils evenly and effortlessly on skin. Just combine castor oil, a chosen base oil and a few dashes of herbal distillate into one incredibly powerful mixture. Now you are ready to remove makeup as easily as never before.

3. Fragrance body sprays

An amazing cosmetic to be used during summer. You can make your own fragrance body spray when you add a few drops of essential oil to herbal distillate. Of course, use an essential oil which aroma appeals to you (e.g. lemon grass or orange). Pour the mixture into a bottle with atomizer and spritz it on your body whenever you want to.

When you combine ylang-ylang oil with herbal distillate, you will create perfect fragrance body spray for romantic evenings. This essential oil is known for being an aphrodisiac. Are you surprised?

This is a general term, but in a moment I’ll give you more ideas for creating homemade beauty products based on herbal distillate. I want to say that the next time you see a recipe for a DIY beauty product, scan it for one ingredient in particular – water. Now, you can replace it with your favorite herbal distillate. This will amplify the beautifying properties of any homemade skin/hair care product you want to produce.

I use herbal distillates in the following cases:

  • clay face masks;
  • as a natural constituent of face serum
  • as a water phase in skin scrubs;
  • I combine them with flaxseed gel and either apply to face or hair.

5. Herbal distillate as the introductory stage of hair oil treatment

This is an absolute hit! Before applying natural oil to scalp and hair – spritz them with herbal distillate. This can be rose, witch-hazel, rosemary (when your hair is oily) or nerol. I’ve also heard that vanilla water serves the purpose. Actually, the possibilities are countless. So, once the hair is damp, you can follow with a beauty oil to massage it into strands. Put on a foil cap and let it sit for 30 minutes, or more. Next, remove the oil with a shampoo and dry the hair as usual. Carry out oil hair treatment in this way a few times to notice that the effects obtained are beyond the expected ones.
